Baby car seats are the only items that you have to have by law before you can bring your new baby home from the hospital. An infant baby car seat is different from a standard car seat, in that it has special padding and cushioning for your baby’s head. Some have a three-point harness system, meaning that the buckling mechanism connects in three places. Others utilize a five-point harness system, indicating five points of harness. If the budget allows, a five-point harness system that features a special mechanism to attach the baby car seat directly to the frame of the vehicle’s seat. This is called a latch mechanism, and uses the lower anchors and tethers to offer additional protection.

No matter which baby car seats you look at, or which you decide to purchase (or from where), keep in mind that safety is the first priority. Cleanliness should run in close second, as exposing baby to germs can mean unnecessary sickness that can become serious in these early stages of life. Baby car seats can be an interesting way to express creativity and style, as long as safety and cleanliness are kept at the top of the list.
